Check out "Mimi" for example. I mean, it downright swings, as do several other of the sections, including "I Love Paris" which features one of this session's many outstanding Coleman Hawkins cadenzas (where he improvises alone while the orchestra lays out). This has been a /5(2).

This is a good album. I recently saw Jazz, a Ken Burns series on PBS. In one of the segments, the music of Coleman Hawkins was highlighted and I wanted to explore it more. I know little of Coleman Hawkins's career but gab enjoyed the album. If anyone is a fan of his, I know they will enjoy this album/5(11).

Like many American Jazzmen of his time it was here that he felt he had garnered the first real appreciation due to him as an artist. Whilst recorded in New York this album is comprised of songs associated with France and with Paris in particular. Hawkins collaborates on these selections with composer/arranger Manny Albam.
