  I didn't enjoy "Magic People" as much as I enjoy "Ellis Island," though this isn't bad at all. Some of the background vocals contain harmonies which are too reminiscent of mid 's pop for me, but I found it interesting to hear how The Paupers evolved as a band, and how this led to their second and final album "Ellis Island" the following year/5(11).

  Ellis Island was the second and final studio album by this Canadian psych rock group. It's a good record with a couple of very impressive tracks to offer. The opener "South Down Road" is just awesome and it's the best song here but "Numbers" and "Yes I Know" are almost as great.

  Ellis Island is lopsided. It starts off with a fantastic jam, but the gets into pop soul, faux country, and a little folk. Nothing binds this except a dated, tinny sound--that treble that plagued even some of the best rock records up until around How bad this is here depends. It works better on the open jams than the more contained songs/5(7).
